Q1 2026 User Group Call
The SurfnOnline User Group met on January 20, 2026 for its quarterly update on the software. The call brought together nuclear fuel management professionals from across the user community to review the latest platform release, discuss progress on the NUFMAP code suite, and set priorities for the projects ahead. As always, the agenda balanced near-term delivery with a longer view of where the software is heading.
The centerpiece of the update was Surfn v3.3.0, released December 26, 2025. The case interface was reworked around a cleaner three-column layout with hover tooltips for long case titles and a scroll-to-last-worked-case feature that returns users directly to where they left off. A new GRS Query Tool lets users query GEM Reporter storage files by category, component, and ownership, with interactive charting built in. KnowledgeBase search was rebuilt with full-text search, relevance scoring, and automated indexing of new documents, and SupplyManager gained multi-component contract support - including UF6 and EUP - with tabbed contract screens and component leadtime and drawdown rules now managed directly by the module. Behind the scenes, a new Calculation Engine API separates the user interface from case execution, laying groundwork for future functionality, while CSRF protection, API token authentication, and template refactoring strengthen security and performance.
On the NUFMAP side, ESM 3.3.1 added a SWU&FEED option to the reload fuel original cost report, giving users an alternative view of cycle costs with merged feed UF6 pricing alongside enrichment SWU costs. Pricelist added support for legacy Excel formats and clearer execution reporting, and users can pin any application to a specific release version directly in SurfnOnline. Modernization of the legacy Fortran codebase continued, with several production applications converted as a first step toward a fully restructured, standards-compliant code suite that will build cleanly with modern compilers. The group also ranked and scoped its next round of development projects, with an end-of-reload material balance report and a reload lot traceability report leading the list.
The next quarterly call is scheduled for April 21, 2026. Members are encouraged to submit feedback and suggestions for future agendas, and planning for the 2027 in-person User Group meeting is underway.
